The Unicorn

Pic courtesy of www.luminous-landscape.com/images/

Hi world, happy Friday!!!

We’re getting ready for more (as if we need it) snow here, followed perhaps by freezing rain. Lovely not to have to go out there in that mess.

Have been passing the last few days running errands, i.e. indulging in my fave sport of shopping. Got the errands done today, which is a great feeling, isn’t it?

A friend lent me the first in the Lord John series by D. Gabaldson (Lord John and the Private Matter), which is as great as the Outlander series of books. Went to Chapters and bought the other two books in that series. Have been in heaven all afternoon.

I have a question for you, world. How do you, or do you, celebrate New Year’s Eve? Haven’t cared much for that, even during the married years, and now ignore it. Was just curious about what the rest of the world does.

Pauly continues to recuperate from his heart attack. Mom is doing fine, as is Sis. Little Bro is in Florida with his harridan (wife). The Most Spoiled Cat In The Universe is very happy. She should be, this entire house is full of her presents!!!
Oh well, she’s an only ‘child’……lol.

Have a great weekend, all!!

Luv, BJ

Tidings of Comfort and Joy

Hello world, how goes it? Hope that your Christmas or whatever you celebrate was happy, peaceful and everything you wanted it to be.

Chez us, all was normal. Mom had to go to the hospital on Christmas Eve to investigate a suspicious bruise (a nasty one) that encircled her entire ankle. We were worried about blood clots and her GP said to get to the hospital asap to check it out, and that the hospital was quiet.

Quiet my foot (ha ha). We waited from 11:30 until 5:00 to see someone, then another 2 hours getting tests and waiting around. Fun it wasn’t especially for Mom, who was waiting for all her kids to come put up her Christmas tree.   Nor for me. The unmentionable brother was in a snit because I didnt call him with the news (Sis did). Why not? The last time I did so, he was angry and petulant and took it out on me. Every action having an equal and opposite reaction —mine was to avoid stress by not calling. So we had the usual “Bro hates his older Sis” thing that he puts on for every family function.  Bo-ring and childish. My late father used t pull the same stunts of histronics. Looks like the apple didn’t fall far from the tree–either that or he feels it’s his duty to carry  on the sick tradition.  I have always suspected that he (and others) also have the bipolar thing that Dad did, but they are not treated.
So like I said, it was normal.

Next year it’ s down souh for thi s gal, to heck with male drama queens!

p.s. the bruise turned ou t to be nothing.

One of my nephews is engaged to a great girl. The histronic Bro’s wife is not entirely happy with this situation–this is her eldest son–and she intends to ‘Have a chat’ with the poor girl on January 1 (this SIL is the biggest control freak I’ve ever known, and I”ve known some doozies). Spare a thought for the poor girl, OK world? They are really great kids and these parents of the poor nephew are going to be the in-laws from hell.  For their own sakes, I hope that they move far out of town. I’d miss them, but it’s the only way they’ll be able to live in peace.

p.s.p.s. The big news is that the chief bad guy back at the hellhole is being audited up the whazzo on several counts. Should be an interesting year…. no way he’ll get away with the blatent stuff he’s been pulling. All the ex employees will be contacted toosince they hav all the info.

Not sure that I needed the stress leave  entirely because of work, lol.

Things will look up the further we get from the holidays….

Love to all, BJ

Rewrite!

World, I’ve written and erased this post many times, which is unusual for me. Most of my posts are written extemporaneously. Really.

Anyway, went to the heart doc today and got a good bill of health. Since this lady is very picky and very well trained, that’s no small thing. She doubled my dose of something or other (actually it was Crestor) and wants me to get a blood test in 3 months. Otherwise, I don’t have to see her for a year. She’s happy with my LDL which went down (for the second time in two years–a first) and some other numbers (hemoglobin somethingorother).

Took Mom to lunch after that. She was very depressed, and getting out was good for her. The sun put in a rare appearance, and we went to Cora’s, where she had crepes with bananas and chocolate. Since Mom loves chocolate and the potassium from the bananas was good for her, this had a very good impact on her mood. It wasn’t so great on mine since the dingbats in the kitchen (it wasn’t the waitress’ fault) took over an hour to prepare my meal. Nice. Won’t be going back there again. Their prices went up too–the shebang cost $30.61. Can you believe that???

Got home to a phone call from the hellhole. They’ve decided to audit the bastage. Considering the grounds they had, this is a slap on the wrist, but at least this will roast him slowly, so that he can enjoy the fruits of his stupid behaviour. My previous posts (now deleted) were rants about the slowness of this system, etc.

Am trying hard not to care. Man alive, working in this organization and having any ethics at all is its own punishment.

Anyway, it’s the weekend, and not even the bastage can change that, tho I’m sure he’d like to try (grin).

Happy Friday, all!!

Just Popping In

Hi world, hope that you’re almost done with your Christmas (not holiday, sorry) shopping?

I finished today and man am I glad. The driving is awful (slippery dry snow on top of ice) and the drivers are worse, this being Ottawa.

Mom’s somewhat calming down. She usually gets into a dither about Christmas, and we’d rather not have her land in the hospital. So now things are going more smoothly/calmly. We kids do the work anyway, she’s just being Mom (God love her!).

Pauly–my friend of friends–had a heart attack. He’s in the hospital and when I called today, sounded good but weak. They don’t know what’s going on with him–he may have a virus, etc.–and he asked me to just stick to phone calls. Am not crazy about that but it’s what he wants. Hope they fix him up well!!!

Have not been too active blogging. It’s because I suspect that the winged monkeys are going nuts trying to find me. In a few days this will boil down, I hope.

Have all kinds of news but will wait for a later date to post it. All is cool, tho.

Keep warm, all!

Goin To The End Of The Line

Hey world!

Both The Most Spoiled Cat In The Universe and I have been needled today. I was worried about her coughing, took her to her doc, and they gave her a shot of an antibiotic that lasts two weeks. She’s stopped coughing, to my great relief, and her lungs and heart are fine (Thank You, Lord). Me? I had to get a cholesterol-and-who-knows-what-else test for two doctors. You should have seen all the blood tubes. They had to do it twice (the first vein collapsed ewwww).

Got some more shopping done, now only have four to go. Haven’t done this this late in a long time. Next year will be earlier.

The idiots called me again today. When is it going to stop? Tried to call block the number and couldn’t.

GI arrives tomorrow, and I haven’t put up decorations yet. Holy tomatoes, I better get moving.

How are you all doing?

Hold in there!!!

All I Want For Christmas Is You!

Happy Thursday, world!

It’s -22C outside with the wind but the snow is big (fat flakes) and soft. The driving however is awfully icy. Glad to be inside now.

Started Christmas shopping today and got about half of it done. Have odds and ends left to do.

The head idioso from the hellhole persists in trying to get hold of me by phone–three attempts in as many days. I finally complained about it so that someone could put an end to it.

Also heard from one of my pals, so we’re doing dinner soon. Yay!

GI is coming to visit this weekend, and I have presents for him and Dar ready Yay again!

The Most Spoiled Cat In The Universe is very happy (she’s been staring at the front door again lately. She does this when she gets lonely for GI). Mom is fine too, now having finished her antibiotics.

Speaking of finished, I finished the last of the Outlander series of books, A Scattering of Snow and Ash. Can’t wait for the next book to be published.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!

YAHOO!!!

Cheers, world.

Yahoo for weekends!

Hi World, hope your weekend’s going as well as mine is!

Gorgeous day which I naturally ignored in favour of reading the Outlander series. Took Mom to get her hair done, and it does look fabulous.

As soon as I got her home, she got sick to her stomach. Why? God knows, I sure don’t. She was fine after that. Odd, huh? She hadn’t eaten much, if anything, today so she wasn’t very sick. I’ve called her two or three times since and she’s fine. Made her dinner before I left, and she ate the whole thing. Her canary’s water dish had gone dry, which I pointed out to her before taking her to get her hair done. Fortunately there are two water dishes in the cage but still. Both the bird and her cat now demand food whenever they see me. Have pointed this out to Mom before. Thank heavens Sis and I go there regularly!

I didn’t stay with Mom because I got together with a pal from the old hellhole I worked in. We had a great dinner except for the fact that our waitress was an idiot and our meal was over an hour late. Everyone who came in after us got their food first. My friend was fit to be tied because she had to go to an event two hours after we got to the restaurant, and barely made it out on time. We had a great talk anyway. The food was fabulous but I doubt that I’ll ever set foot in there again. Our waitress was the owner, too.

Now that I’m on a better prescription, am sleeping well. Went to sleep last night at 11, woke up at noon. Yep, noon. Will be by to visit you all tomorrow…..

Love ya, world.

Happy Friday, World!!!

World, hope your Friday was as good as mine.

First, it snowed but one of those very slow snowfalls, like being inside a snow globe, with big fat flakes.  Yes I did go out in it too.

Only had one phone call (work of course) at 8:00. Since I was awake till 4:30 last night (Imovane not working), went promptly back to sleep.

The doctor’s verdict is that, work phone calls aside, am doing fine and don’t have to go back until Jan. 18. This is great news, I think.

Filled prescription for new sleep meds, one that works, tonight. Have been up till at least 4 twice this week and that was enough. Yeoch there is nothing on TV that late.

Mom fell last night but didn’t hurt herself except for bruises.

Am 1/3 of the way through the last (so far) of the Outlander series. Just got through reading an episode where the corpse at a funeral woke up (this is set in the late 1770s) and gave hell to her son-in-law for throwing her a cheap wake. Laughed myself sick.

Gotta go, Friday After Dark is on. Yay!

Happy weekend, world!

Exercise is good for you!

A WOMAN’S WEEK AT THE GYM (thanks, Peter T and sorry for the repeat, joke list folks!)

If you read this without laughing out loud, there is something wrong
with you. This is dedicated to everyone whoever attempted to get into
a regular workout routine.

Dear Diary,

For my birthday this year, my daughter (the dear) purchased a week of
personal training at the local health club for me.

Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football
cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go
ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer
named Belinda, who identified herself as a 26-year-old aerobics
instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

My daughter seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club
encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

MONDAY:

Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was
well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Belinda
waiting for me. She is something of a Greek goddess - with blonde
hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!! Belinda gave
me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skillful
way in which she conducted her aerobics class after my workout today.
Very inspiring!

Belinda was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was
already aching from holding it in the whole time she was around. This
is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!

TUESDAY:

I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door.

Belinda made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air
then she put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the
treadmill, but I made the full mile. Belinda’s rewarding smile made it
all worthwhile. I feel GREAT!! It’s a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY:

The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the
counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a
hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to
steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.

Belinda was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered
other club members. Her voice is a little too perky for early in the
morning and when she scolds, she gets this nasally whine that is VERY
annoying. My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Belinda put me
on the stair monster. Why the Hell would anyone invent a machine to
simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Belinda told me
it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. She said some other shit
too.

THURSDAY:

Belinda was waiting for me with her vampire-like teeth exposed as her
thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn’t help
being half an hour late, it took me that long to tie my shoes.

Belinda took me to work out with dumbbells. When she was not looking,
I ran and hid in the restroom. She sent another skinny bitch to find
me. Then, as punishment, she put me on the rowing machine -which I
sank.

FRIDAY:

I hate that bitch Belinda more than any human being has ever hated any
other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic,
anorexic little cheerleader. If there was a part of my body I could
move without unbearable pain, I would beat her with it.

Belinda wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t have any triceps! And
if you don’t want dents in the floor, don’t hand me the damned
barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich. The treadmill
flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why
couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the
choir director?

SATURDAY:

Belinda left a message on my answering machine in her grating, shrilly
voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing her made me
want to smash the machine with my planner. However, I lacked the
strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven
straight hours of the Weather Channel.

SUNDAY:

I’m having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go
and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year
my daughter (the little shit) will choose a gift for me that is fun -
like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me
to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!

Welcome!

Hi world, and welcome to the funny farm at a new site. Wordpress apparently thinks that I’m a spammer and this problem has no resolution, according to BlogSavvy.

So we move again.

The content will be the same as before, with more humor and less about the insane asylum in which I used to labor.

Feel free to link to me, please.

Onward and upward!!!
